Since 2005, our company has been devoted to producing local energy and conserving resources. Indigenous Energy was founded by Pete Probst and Fred Barker after winning some money at a business plan competition while students at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The two entrepreneurs have been focused on sustainability projects ever since. Like most companies in emerging economies, there have been a lot of ups and downs along the way. We went from developing carbon credit programs for customers to recycling steel in railyards. After working with the rail industry for several years to remove and recycle thousands of tons of ferrous material, Fred departed Indigenous Energy and started Indigenous Rail. Pete stayed at Indigenous Energy and focused on consulting in the biodiesel sector.
