What We Do Welcome to LKM Recycling, one of the UK’s leading scrap metal recycling companies. At LKM we have over 35 years experience in the scrap metal industry and we use everything we’ve learned about scrap metal and waste recycling to help you make the most of your business. We buy and sell a range of materials, finding flexible, innovative and cost effective solutions for our clients and helping them on the path to becoming cleaner, greener and more efficient. Please get in touch if you deal in any of the following materials: Ferrous Metals Non-ferrous Metals Wood Plastic Glass Paper Cardboard WEEE (household only) Our outstanding customer service team are always on hand to offer advice on any aspect of your recycling needs and have the requisite skills and experience to help you find efficient, cost effective solutions. We are dedicated to recycling and always operate with our customers’ best interests in mind, offering innovative solutions at prices that make sense. We are extremely proud of the service we offer and our track record speaks for itself. Rather than paying for their waste materials to be removed to a landfill, our customers can sell to us, saving and making money simultaneously. Companies both large and small can benefit from our services, with savings ranging from a few hundred pounds per month to over two thousand. Our experience in the industry has shaped the way we work and we use our past triumphs to inform our current practices, ensuring that we stay on the cutting edge of recycling and offer innovative solutions for the future. Although we started life as London and Kent Metals, our business has grown and changed in order to keep pace with the needs of our customers. So successful have we been in our determination to remain at the cutting edge of recycling, that today LKM deals with consistently large volumes of metals, woods, plastics, glass, cardboard and WEEE, offering total waste management solutions for all our clients. Metal We deal in both ferrous and non-ferrous metals (including copper, aluminum, brass, lead and stainless steel) and offer competitive pricing on both large and small loads. Ferrous metals, in particular, represent a substantial portion of our business and we have over three decades of experience dealing with the handling, recycling and distribution of these materials. At LKM we have the knowledge to guide you through the recycling process from start to finish and the capacity to handle all your service requirements. Our outstanding logistical capabilities mean that we can handle large volumes and we have the experience to offer advice on compliance to both SME and Blue Chip companies. Material costs are calculated at our weighbridge and paid out accordingly. Because the metals market is so changeable, we keep a close eye on global prices so that we can give you the best possible deal. Plastics Plastics recycling is an important part of what we do at LKM because it can conserve energy and non-renewable resources, negating the need for primary extraction and manufacture of new materials. We have invested heavily in state of the art processing equipment because plastic polymers require higher levels of processing than many other materials. We sort plastics by resin type before processing and recycle them into usable material. For example, every UPVC window frame that we process is 100% recycled into metals and plastics and these plastics are then ready to be turned back into window frames. Plastic is a highly sought after global commodity and is in particular demand in Asia and the Far East. Because of this, we can offer our customers good prices, which are kept in line with the international markets. Recycling plastics is not just desirable, it is essential for the future of our economy and our environment and LKM are proud to be at the forefront of the industry. Glass LKM’s recent move into glass recycling has been aided by the acquisition of cutting edge processing equipment, which allows us to handle large volumes of material. Recycling glass uses far less energy than initial manufacturing and for every metric tonne of waste glass we recycle, we save a massive 690 lb of CO₂, making it one of the most efficient and worthwhile forms of recycling. Coloured glass is separated accordingly and then crushed into cullet ready to be shipped to companies who will recycle it into bottles, insulation, water filtration media, abrasives, aggregate and other items. Our glass comes from many sources but is all subjected to the very highest quality standards to ensure the best outcome. Because we trade internationally we are able to offer competitive prices on both ends of the process. Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) LKM are working closely with households and our mobile collectors to increase the recycling rates of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). By segregating all WEEE items that enter the metals stream and passing on to the WEEE processors, this initiative will help towards government targets for the recycling of WEEE. Only WEEE that is produced by households is allowed to go in this stream.
